Fred Burton has been involved in horses since he was 10. In 1970, after marrying, moving to Young NSW and starting a family, Fred and his former wife Christine, started a lifelong passion, breeding, showing and selling Paint Horses. Fred became involved in the organisational side of the PHAA for 15 years (1983-1998) as an active member of the Board, respected for his knowledge of Paint Horses and the governing regulations and his participation in the implementation of the Memorandum and Articles of Association of the Paint Hose Association of Australia Limited.

After an absence from the Paint Horse industry and Young, the lure of the Paint Horses beckoned Fred back to participate once more in his favourite pastime. Fred now resides with his partner, Carolyn Ferris, at Wombat, a short 15km south of Young, with handy access to Sydney and Canberra, on a 40 acre property, Glenede, where he is caring for his brood of mares and their progeny and his stallion, Skipaluckystar.

Today, Fred is once again acive in the industry, respected as an impartial and experienced judge at horse shows.

Fred’s tips for selecting a good Paint Horse mare:

“The horse must have good structure, correct conformation and the head must be well set on the neck.  That ties into the shoulders to give an overall effect. I am looking for perfection, but am willing to compromise a few points that a stallion will compliment.”    - Fred Burton
